How do you affirm your grandkids?

Do you have a special and unique saying or action that you use to encourage them and let them know they’re special to you?

That’s one of the best things about many grandparent/grandchild connections: so often, it’s so easy to express love and excitement for each other without reservation or worrying about whether something you’ve said or done is being taken the wrong way—like often happens with adult relationships.

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s time to start thinking and planning for how to show love to your grandkids—to “spoil” them in a good way.

This isn’t about overloading them with gifts and sugary treats; instead, it’s time to pull out all the stops with sincere blessings and affirmations. Here are some statements you might consider:

“You leave a little sparkle wherever you go.”

“You stole my heart from the very start.”

“Never forget that I love you.”

“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.” (A good one to sing.)

“You make my heart sing.”

“I love you to the moon and back.”

“No matter how much you grow, you’ll always be my granddaughter.”

“You hold the strength to follow your dreams.”

“You have colored my heart with love.”

Can you imagine saying these things to your grandchild?

Putting them into words is important, and it shouldn’t be just a few times a year. You should seek to make these kinds of statements part of your regular interaction with them. You might also consider including a small gift with one of these inscriptions, so they are reminded of your love over and over, even when you aren’t together.
